Grip & Swing Thoughts
Grip Controls
Your golf grip controls many items that make a proper swing. Here is a partial list of some of those items:
- Club Head
- Club Face
- Shaft Lean
- Shaft Plane
- Wrist Cocking
- Wrist Hinging
- Swing Plane
- Forearm Rotation
- Screwdriver Effect
- Control Upper Lever
- (Arms & Shoulders swings around a fixed pivot)
- Control Lower Lever
- (The shaft of the golf club)
- Shallowing the Club on the Downswing
- Left arm must turn 90 degrees in the correct plane
Teaching Philosophy
There is only one sequence of movements that are required in playing a proper golf shot. I know what that sequence is and I can help you learn and master that technique.
To play well, you must have the feel of the correct shot.
It is a very athletic movement of the whole body. It is not a swing!!!!
When you move the club with your HANDS & ARMS like a baseball bat, your HANDS & ARMS CANNOT do what they are supposed to do.
When you move the club with your BODY, then your HANDS & ARMS can do what they are supposed to do.
Most golfers “swing” the club in a spoke like manner. There is no swinging in golf.
Rather it is two turns of the body and a whip of the club. It is a flailing motion.
And you MUST have the proper grip to perform this flailing action.
Most of my lessons deal with providing my students with information about the ‘global’ perspectives regarding their golf swings. Discussed topics include:
1.) Golfers must move their hands and arms in a circular motion around a central fixed point somewhere in the middle of their chests.
2.) Golfers must move the club head in a circular motion around their hands.
3.) To hit a straight shot, golfers must move the club head in a perfect circle around themselves.
